Ethical hacking requires more practical knowledge than theory. You need to study a lot in system, server and networking. I cannot judge you knowledge on computers. If you need to start from the basics, You will have to complete your A+ and N+. Personal recommendation dont spend soo much money before you know what is what. Start with Nugets. you can get 100's not videos in the web about CEH. First learn about the WALL (Firewall and it useage). Then learn to break it.

Recomendation:
1. a+ and N+
2. CCNA
3. Some firewall certification.
4. CEH

This will make you a perfect hacker then doing your certification in university.
And again.. You will have to be updated on the current technology. Have a VM installed and Crack your own network. Practice makes a person perfect
